About The Brand

Zari is an independent fine dining Indian restaurant based in Crawley, West Sussex, proudly serving the community for over 30 years. Known for its authentic flavours, elegant setting, and award-winning service, Zari has built a strong local reputation and become a household name in the area.

Despite decades of success, the restaurant’s traditional marketing methods and early digital efforts weren’t keeping pace with how people now discover places to eat. Visibility online was limited, and newer competitors were starting to take the spotlight. That’s when Zari partnered with Three Sixtys to modernise their digital presence and get back to the top of local search.

The Challenge

By 2018, despite having a solid reputation offline, Zari’s online marketing had stagnated. Their previous efforts included traditional advertising, outdated SEO tactics, and minimal PPC campaigns. Website traffic and bookings began to plateau. With increasing competition and changing digital behaviour, Zari sought a more expert-led strategy.

They approached Three Sixtys to provide consultations and guidance to improve digital performance. While some improvements were seen through their freelancer-led efforts (guided by our advice), progress was limited.

In 2020, like many in hospitality, Zari was severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Footfall disappeared overnight, and they were forced to pivot quickly or risk closure. During this time, they were still relying on outdated SEO tactics, including high volumes of low-quality backlinks, which initially boosted traffic but eventually triggered Google penalties after algorithm updates.

The Results

After completely taking over Zari’s digital marketing in late 2022, we implemented a full strategy covering SEO, Google Ads, content, and email marketing. We cleaned up years of harmful backlinks, fixed technical issues, and built out a strong local presence through high-quality content and Google Business Profile optimisation. Our targeted ad campaigns delivered a high return without heavy spend, while consistent email marketing helped drive repeat bookings.


The results have been impressive. Zari now ranks in the top 3 on Google’s local pack for “restaurant Crawley”, appearing alongside well-known names like Turtle Bay, and holds the top spot for “Indian Restaurants”. Website traffic hit an all-time high in summer 2024, a period when most restaurants see a dip. The strength of their online presence even led celebrity comedian Romesh Ranganathan to discover the restaurant, and he’s since become a loyal customer.

 

Zari continues to grow, with more bookings, increased visibility, and a solid digital foundation built for long-term success.
